A memorial service will be held at Edgewood United Church in East Lansing at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Carl was born Dec. 24, 1921 on the family farm in Metropolis and graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served with the Navy Armed Guard in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he moved to East Lansing to attend Michigan State College.
Carl spent most of his professional career as a loan officer and senior appraiser with Capital Federal Savings and Loan in Lansing.
Through regular visits, he stayed closely connected to his beloved hometown of Metropolis and his many relatives and friends in Massac County.
Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; one son, Gary Mescher and wife Marlene of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one daughter, Susan Wilbanks of Lyman, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Amanda Mescher; and his brother, Paul Mescher.
