Vernon Lee Norwood, 71, of Metropolis, passed away at 12 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at First United Methodist Church in Metropolis with Rev. Jon Cockrel and Rev. Paul McCormick officiating.

Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Norwood was an avid fisherman, farmer and member of the Masonic Lodge 91.

He was an employee of Allied for 32 years before retiring.

Vernon is survived by his daughters, Kimberly McCormick and husband Paul of Metropolis and Karol Smith and husband Sam of Corinth, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Sherri Norwood of Justin, Texas; three granddaughters, Michaela McCormick of Metropolis, Samantha Smith of Corinth and Kathryn Norwood of Justin; one grandson, Matthew McCormick of Metropolis; one brother, Lindell Norwood and wife Marsha of Metropolis; one sister-in-law, Doris Vogt of Metropolis; several nieces and nephews and three acquired grandsons, Matthew Ballard, Jeff Donnelly and Travis Zea.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; one son, Kevin; and one brother, Warren.

Visitation will be held from noon until the funeral hour on Monday at the church.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
