Press Release

11/22/2013 — The Illinois State Police (ISP) would like to thank the public for staying out of the damaged areas of Brookport during the tornado restoration process. Staying out of these areas keeps traffic from becoming congested.

Catastrophes can bring out people who prey on the victims. The ISP is warning victims to be aware of the possibility of looters and scam artists. “Never give personal information over the telephone, such as your social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, credit card number or bank PIN number, unless you initiated the call. Make sure you release this information only when necessary,” advises ISP Trooper Michael Usher.

Volunteer registration will begin on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is at the old Veach’s service station located at the intersection of Ill. 145 and U.S. 45.

The Illinois Department of Transportation and Massac County Highway Department will begin large debris removal the morning of Monday, November 25. Debris should be placed curbside and should not block roadway.

According to Usher, the ISP will continue to have saturated patrols in Brookport. A curfew from 6pm to 6am will remain in effect on Nov. 22.
