Born Dec. 29, 1946 in Union County, Mr. Chapman was a graduate of Shawnee High School at Wolf Lake.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1966-1968 and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colo.
He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Brumley Chapman; two sons, Herman Chapman Jr. and Mark Chapman, both of Jonesboro; two daughters, Jennifer Chapman of Missouri and Sierra Chapman of Vienna; four grandchildren; five brothers, Herschel Lee Chapman of Florida, William “Willie” Joe Chapman of Wolf Lake, James Chapman of Metropolis and Charles Chapman and Donnie Chapman, both of Cobden; six sisters, Martha Lemons and Norma Burke, both of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Nancy Austin of Buncombe, Kay Chapman of Anna and Emma Odle and Irma Chapman, both of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Wilber “Blackie” and Eva Lee Andrews Chapman.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial followed at Vienna Fraternal Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail.
