Mr. Staton served in the United States Army, was a lifetime member of the VFW in Metropolis and was a member of the American Legion Post 306 in Metropolis.
He was a retired truck driver and diesel mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Keen Staton; two sons, Kevin Staton and wife Vicki of Oswego and Ray Allen Staton of Aurora; one grandson, Noah Staton of Oswego; six sisters, Joan Carrell and husband Bill of Metropolis, Judy Schmersey and husband Paul of Fort Worth, Texas, Susan Hansen of Stephenson, Mich., Rhonda Phelps and husband George of New Columbia, Norma Bradlou of Sarasota, Fla. and Linda Leek and husband Jeff of Hopkinsville, Ky.; and one brother, David Staton and wife Linda of Waxahachie, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Carson Staton; his parents, Clyde and Freda Henderson Staton; and three brothers, Carl, Clifford “Duke” and Dale Staton.
Funeral service was held Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak with Rev. Frank Forthman officiating.
Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery in Grantsburg.
Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Post 306 in Metropolis and by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail Team.
