Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Perryville, Mo.
Born March 26, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Mr. Brickhaus studied vocal and instrumental music at Southeast Missouri State University where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He served his country as an E-5/SGT trombone player and repair NCO from January 1972 until January 1974 in the 82nd U.S. Army Band at Stuttgart, Germany – Kelley Barracks.
He taught band and choir at Pope County High School from 1974-1997 and at Massac County High School from 1997-2003. He retired in 2003 but continued to substitute teach at many area schools.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Paducah. He sang with the SIC Choir, GMT Community Choir and the men’s choir and chamber choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He wrote numerous model airplane articles and two short fiction stories.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Kathy Ashford Brickhaus of Golconda; one son, James Ketten and wife Michele; one sister, Margaret Brickhaus of Jackson, Mo.; one brother, Glen Brickhaus and wife Marilyn of Chester; and two nieces, Sasha Dammrich and Katia Brickhaus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred Ochs Brickhaus; and one sister, Patricia Brickhaus.
Visitation will be from 5-9 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at the funeral home.
