The Lady Patriots took on Marion in first round action Monday night at Carbondale in the Mid-Winter Tournament.

Host school Carbondale, Marion, Mascoutah, Collinsville, Mt. Vernon and Massac will all play three games each in the format.

Massac will play Mt. Vernon on Friday, and in what figures to be the marquee matchup, will play Carbondale on Saturday night.

Monday night saw the Lady Patriots come off the blocks just a little slowly but then cruised away to a 55-30 win.

Good defensive pressure led to several easy fast break buckets for the ladies, especially in a big second quarter.

Emily Hoard and Natalie Bailey each tossed in 10 points to lead the girls. The big second half cushion gave Lady Patriots coach Keith Shelton the opportunity to play the entire bench with a host of girls getting into the scoring column.
