Lula Belle Becker, 79, of Goreville, formerly of Karnak and McLeansboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at her residence.

Funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Jack Russell officiate. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 at Old Springer Cemetery near McLeansboro with Rev. Jay Vineyard officiating, where she will be buried beside her beloved husband, Bob.

Belle, as she was known by all, was born on Sept. 24, 1934 to Grace Lucinda and Henry Story in Scale, Ky. She married James Robert “Bob” Becker on Dec. 29, 1964 in Joppa. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before his passing on April 2, 2010.

Belle enjoyed trail riding, gardening and mowing her yard. She loved her little dog, Lucy, and spending time with her family, especially at the holidays.

Belle is survived by three daughters, Theresa Blasdel of Joppa, Pam Barnett and husband Jack of Goreville and Kathy Kind and husband Robert of Granite City; one sister, Dorothy Lewis of Karnak; three brothers, Norris Story of Joppa, Frank King and wife Mary Jane of Beecher and Jerry Story and wife Delores of Greenville, N.Y.; three half sisters, Martha Ann (Peggy) Vaughn of Alabama, Daisy Irene (Dago) Freeman of Georgia and Hazel May (Debbie) Saylors of Arkansas; one half brother, Richard Dale Story and wife Barbara of Metropolis; her stepsiblings, Ethel Harvel of Joppa, Jim King and wife Pearl and Bob King and wife Sharon, all of Metropolis, and Margaret Black and husband Tom of Villa Grove; 10 grandchildren, Cindy Blasdel and Darren Blasdel of South Pekin, Tina Blasdel-Dawson and husband Doug of Marquette Heights, Cheryl Walker, Amanda Peckinpaugh and husband Richard, Jennifer Ashmore and Tate Wright and wife Rachel, all of Marion, Ashley Barnett of Goreville, Kelly Patrick and wife Rebecca of Grand Tower and Zane Patrick of Granite City; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Harl and Mona Weaver of McLeansboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Becker; her mother, Grace Lucinda Ford; her father, Henry Story; her stepfather, Ernest King; four brothers, Moss E. Story, John D. Story, Carol A. “Popeye” Story and Harley Lee “Bub” Story; and her beloved son, Lindel Ray Blasdel.
