Durwood D. Eleam, 74, of Metropolis, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Eleam retired from Electric Energy Inc. of Joppa as a shift supervisor. He was a member of Metropolis First Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 91, a member of the Four Rivers Jayco Camping Club and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having obtained the rank of BT3.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rheitta McNichols Eleam of Metropolis; two daughters, Martha Boland and husband Allen of Brentwood, Tenn. and Susan Thompson and fiancé Billy Shinn of Metropolis; three granddaughters, Audrey and Katie Thompson, both of Metropolis, and Elizabeth Boland of Brentwood; one brother, Gerald L. Eleam of Enterprise, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis F. and Lucille Lauderdale Eleam.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Pope County.
