Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Dr. Ed Hollis and Rev. David Faulkner officiating.
Burial will follow at the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail.
Born March 21, 1920 in the Samoth community in Massac County, Mr. McBride was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He was employed by the Cates-McCorkle Grocery in Vienna from 1953-55. He then worked as a storekeeper at the Choate Mental Health Center in Anna until his retirement in 1982.
He accepted a position with Whitnel Funeral Homes, where he was employed as an assistant until 1997 and continued his working career as an assistant at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna as well as working on the maintenance department through a senior’s program with the U.S. Forest Service.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Carrie Jackson McBride; two daughters, Vera Bedwell of Goreville and Betty Wilson of Carterville; two sons, Garry McBride and wife Mollie of Crossville, Tenn. and Roger McBride of Wakefield, Kan.; five grandchildren, Jason McBride, Laurie Turner, Desiree Arnold, Amanda Wood and Charles Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Dustin Turner, Nathan Turner, Joshua McBride, Parker Ryan Wood, Zachary Turner, Kristen McBride and Cydnee Wood; one sister-in-law, Mary McBride of Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertis E. and Mary Ethel Burnham McBride; and three brothers, Elmer, Henry and Walter McBride.
