Mr. Evans was a member of Mt. Horeb Church in Metropolis, where he sang in the male chorus. He retired from the maintenance department at Honeywell of Metropolis.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era.
Survivors include one son, Timothy Whaley of Dothan, Ala.; three daughters, Eartha Davison of Paducah, Liz “Dootsie” Carruthers of Metropolis and Shamara Kizer of Kenasaw, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Ray Evans Jr.; his parents, Lawrence Renfro and Opal Evans Morris; and one brother, Robert Morris.
Funeral service was held Friday at Mt. Horeb Church in Metropolis with Rev. Joseph Benberry and Rev. C.B. Akins Sr. officiating. Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis with military honors conducted.
Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home of Paducah was in charge of arrangements.
