No charges issued following two-car Pope vehicle accident

The following preliminary information is being released by Illinois State Police district 22 regarding the two-vehicle crash in Pope County on Sunday, with a single fatality.

The crash occurred on Ill. 145, one-half a mile south of Bay Valley Road at 4:31 p.m. The two vehicles involved were a 2007 maroon Dodge Caravan and a black 2014 Jeep Wrangler.

Tamela K. Conn, 44, of Elizabethtown, was driving the Dodge Caravan with a 14-year-old passenger, northbound on Ill. 145. Damon P. Acuff, 45, of Metropolis, drove the 2014 Jeep, with an eight-year old female passenger along with Tracy L. Acuff, 40, of Metropolis.

According to the ISP, all of the occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

From the information from ISP, the cause of the accident was due to excess speed due to the weather condition.

The preliminary information indicates the Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, started spinning an drove into the path of the Jeep.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan, Conn, was killed as a result of the accident. The 14-year-old received non-incapacitating injuries.

Acuff, the driver of the Jeep, received incapacitating injuries, while passenger Tracy Acuff and the 8-year-old female received non-incapacitating injuries.

According to the information from ISP, no charges have been issued.
