Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Louis W. Brinker officiating.
Mr. Tanner was an electrician and retired from ICG Railroad. He was an Army veteran, serving his country in World War II. Jack was an avid golfer and liked to brag about his hole-in-one in October 1977. He was a member of the Metropolis First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Jill Meng and husband David of Metropolis; one son, William David Tanner and wife Susan of Paducah; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Moss of Los Alamitos, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Tanner; his stepfather and mother, Art and Gladys Jackson Heil; his wife of 65 years, Allene Tanner; and one sister, Helen Louise Houseright.
There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
