Lucile L. Davis, 83, of Karnak, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Born Oct. 1, 1930 near Cypress, Mrs. Davis was a 1948 graduate of Ullin High School.  She began her working career as a clerk for Casper’s Store in the early 1950s and continued part-time in 1952. She then became the school secretary for the Ullin School System.  In 1963, she moved to the secretary position at Century 100 School when Ullin, Karnak and Grand Chain schools consolidated. Mrs. Davis retired from that position in 1990, after 38 years of service.

She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Perks and served as the church’s Sunday school clerk until 2010, a period of over 50 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Loren Sickling and wife Kate of Dongola and Oral Sickling and wife Letha of Calvert City, Ky.; five nieces; six nephews; and two uncles, Bob Mizell of Petersburg and Rillis Mizell of Joliet. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred J. and Lora M. Mizell Sickling; her husband of 50 years, Leon Davis; one sister, Melba Ragsdale; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Raymond Davis; three nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral service was held Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Mrs. Davis’ nephews, Rev. Mark E. Sickling and Rev. Matthew A. Sickling, officiating.  Music was provided by two nieces, Patena Ragsdale Atherton and Julie Sickling Bailey; and one nephew, Rockne Ragsdale Jr. Burial followed at Cypress Masonic Cemetery.
