Massac County’s Patriot baseball team has only three seniors on its roster and those three young men were honored before last Friday’s game against Anna-Jonesboro.

All three — Randy Holmes, Dalton Mitchell and Jacob Pegram — started against the Wildcats and all three played a part in a much needed 5-0 win.

Mitchell has been a lynchpin on this Patriot team so the Pats have counted on his contributions all season. Holmes has been the starting left fielder on defense virtually all season but has batted little, and Pegram, who hadn’t played organized ball in a while, has seen little varsity action but all three were pivotal in the streak-ending win.

Mitchell turned in a couple of nice plays at shortstop. Holmes was solid in left and led the Patriot offense with a couple of hits in three at bats with an RBI to boot. Pegram made a nice running catch on a towering wind-blown fly down the right field line and lined out to right with the bases loaded in his only at bat.
