Banterra would give the county its current bank building located at 101 W. Eighth St., excluding the building where Lange Chiropractic is located. The donation would also include real property located across the street from the bank at 802 Ferry St.
As a part of the agreement, the county would abate the taxes at 519, 521 and 523 Ferry St., where Banterra has recently purchased vacant lots, to build a new branch building.
The lots are located to the east of MidCountry Bank, which owned the property until May 21, when they were sold to Mark Jones, of Eldorado. Jones then sold the lots to Banterra Bank on June 2. The county will abate the taxes for a period of 10 years and will approach other taxing bodies to also abate the taxes on the property. Banterra will continue to pay taxes for the Massac Unit One School District.
A motion was made and approved unanimously to accept the agreement of the donation.
