Lucy Eva Trigg Johnson Burgess, 84, of Metropolis, formerly of the Simpson community, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Born Jan. 25, 1930 in Simpson, Mrs. Burgess was a graduate of McKee Public School and Vienna High School.

She was employed by Nationwide Glove Company for eight years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda “Irene” Johnson of Metropolis; one sister, Lou Dean Spurlin of Simpson; and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph J. and Annie Ruth Watkins Trigg; her first husband of 33 years, Charles E. “Cotton” Johnson; her second husband of five years, James Elmer Burgess; three brothers, Hobart, Jim and John Trigg; and three sisters, Violet Broadway, Sarah Johnson and Ruth Longworth.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Rev. David Faulkner officiating. Burial followed at Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods community.
