No new Honeywell, USW contract yet

At Monday evening’s bargaining session, Honeywell and United Steel Worker’s Local 7-669 continued to exchange proposals on a range of topics, including benefits, seniority and subcontracting.

“The two sides were able to reach a tentative agreement on another section of the contract covering management rights,” said Honeywell spokesman Peter Dalpe.

As of press time, there has been no announcement of a new contract between Honeywell and members of USW. The current contract expires Friday and both the company and union officials have met daily since July 28 to discuss the new contract.

Dalpe has sent daily updates regarding each negotiation session. According to Dalpe, talks July 23were productive and the two sides reached a tentative agreement on the issue of bereavement.

“The parties also made significant progress on the topic of grievances. The two sides also held discussions on topics including jury duty and health and safety. While the company and union still have a significant number of critical topics to discuss, the company is encouraged by the talks to date and remains committed to bargaining with the union in good faith with the mutual goal of a fair and equitable agreement,” said Dalpe.

Over the course of the rest of the week, according to Dalpe’s updates, the two sides have exchanged proposals on topics ranging from jury duty to the use of subcontractors.

Dalpe said the company continues to bargain in good faith and made a number of proposals designed to help control costs and provide the flexibility needed for the plant to achieve profitability in a highly competitive global marketplace for the plant’s only product.

On Friday the company and union had a productive session and continued to make progress in several areas. The two sides also started talks on healthcare, a critical issue in the negotiations.

Sunday, proposals on topics including grievances and leaves of absence were passed, and the company presented the union with details of its benefits proposals, including the company’s consumer-driven health care plan.

“The company and union also discussed a number of topics, including subcontracting. The company is committed to bargaining in good faith during negotiations this week,” said Dalpe.
