Ruby Elizabeth Hillebrand Adams of Vacaville, California, formerly of Metropolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep among family and friends. She was 92 years old and ready to be at eternal peace with her Lord and Savior.

Ruby was born on a small farm in Metropolis to John Deitrich Hillebrand and Dora Buldtmann Hillebrand. She had one older brother, Willard Hillebrand, and one younger sister, Doris Hillebrand Bormann Wallace.

Ruby worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and then in occupied Japan. Ruby met and married U.S. Army officer Gerard Conery Adams in Osaka in 1948. As part of Gerard C. Adams’ army career, they traveled the world to Germany, New Orleans, Okinawa, Thailand, Philippines, New Jersey, Virginia, and finally to California for retirement.

Ruby’s calling in life was to be a wonderful mother, raising four children: Dora Marie Adams, Gerard C. Adams Jr., Carol Sue Adams and John Deitrich Hillebrand. Ruby also had three grandchildren: April Zeman-Lowe, Austin Zeman and Jack Hillebrand.

Ruby had a servant’s heart full of compassion for people in need. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for over 30 years. She was very active in the Vacaville community through the Saturday Club, the Garden Club, the Vacaville Museum Guild and the local food bank.

Ruby will be missed dearly by all of her friends and family for her grace, beauty, kindness, charming smile and gentle spirit. She is now a new angel with the Lord God. Be at peace and serenity forever, sweet Ruby.

A private family memorial service was held.
