Wesley Robert Thoms, 84, of Metropolis, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014. His final days were spent with his wife, Margie; son, Wesley; granddaughter, Clarissa; and extended family.

Graveside service with military rites will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Ridge Cemetery with Bro. William Schierbaum officiating.

Wesley was born on Dec. 21, 1929 in Watertown, South Dakota to William and Minnie Johnson Thoms. He served in the Korean War in 1951, where he was shot and suffered many years of discomfort. He received the Purple Heart and other awards.

Wes operated many businesses from Alaska and Oregon to Metropolis, where he owned and operated the East End Tavern.

He knew and loved his Lord God.

He enjoyed singing and hearing the Bible read to him.

Wes leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Margie; one son, Wesley; one granddaughter, Clarissa; two sisters, Lucille Myers and Beverly Feighner; and three brothers, Henry Tiegland, Leonard Tiegland and George Tiegland.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Darlene Lunning and Lorraine Roser; and two brothers, Clarence Thoms and Delbert Tiegland.

There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the services.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
