Norma Jean Harrell Beckham, 76, of Decatur, formerly of Metropolis, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 in Royse City, Texas at the home of her daughter after a year-long battle with cancer.

Jeanie, as she was called by her family, was born Aug. 11, 1937 and grew up in Metropolis, the daughter of Clennie Bruce and Mary Harris Harrell.

She graduated from the Metropolis Community High School Class of 1954 and wanted to attend her 60th class reunion this October.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Harvey Beckham; two sons, Jim Thrasher of Texas and Bob Thrasher of Pekin; her daughter, Regina Thrasher of Royse City; one stepson, Mike Beckham of Decatur; four sisters, Edna Heyde of St. Louis, Missouri, Betty Sanford of Decatur, Mary Jo Carvish and husband John of Streator and Helen Wolfe of Naperville; and five grandchildren.

Members of Jeanie’s family in Metropolis include one niece, Sharon LaGore and husband Alvin; one nephew, Ray Harrell; and their families and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Harrell; and one sister, Margie Stratemeyer.

Funeral service was held Aug. 12, 2014 in Greenville, Texas.
