Born on Sept. 7, 1928 in Robinson, Mrs. DeLay attended Eastern Illinois University and obtained a teacher’s certificate. She also received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She taught mathematics and computer science for a number of years in Metropolis.
Survivors include one daughter, Debby DeLay of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orly Baker and Marjorie Fry Baker; her husband of 41 years, James DeLay; two sons, Mike and Matthew DeLay; and one brother, Avery Baker.
Funeral service was held Saturday at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with Pastor Dennis Steckley officiating.
Burial followed at Fuller Cemetery in Crawford County.
