Diabetes program scheduled
Massac Memorial Hospital of Metropolis will host a free diabetes support group from 3:30-4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the hospital's boardroom. Attendees will learn how to manage diabetes by understanding basic diabetes information and terminology. The Sept. 10 meeting will include caring for your eyes with diabetes. Worship in the Park planned
First Christian Church in Metropolis invites the public for Sunday Morning Worship at Fort Massac Park in the area across from the Girl Scout House on Sunday, Sept. 15. Fellowship with coffee and donuts will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Worship service with special music by Eric Horner starts at 10:30 a.m. A love offering will be collected, and communion will be served. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on and a covered dish to share. Potluck luncheon will follow the service.
Retired teachers to meet
The Johnson County Retired Teachers will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Vienna Methodist Church. Lunch will be catered, thus a count of those planning to attend will be needed. Individuals should call Nancy Ford as soon as possible to confirm registration at 618-658-8136 or 618-771-1016. All retired teachers are welcome to attend. The program will include updates on current issues.
Just Friends to perform
Just Friends will be the featured band at Monday Night Live on Sept. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 W. 10th St., Monday Night Live features live bands and dancing. A donation is required in order for this program to continue.
Church homecoming is Sunday
Dixon Springs Baptist Church, located at 964 Ill. 146 near Dixon Springs State Park, will host its 133rd homecoming at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. The gospel bluegrass group US 62 will perform and a potluck luncheon will be served following the service with catfish provided. Pastor Matt Snell and congregation invite everyone to attend.
Post 306 hosting event
Metropolis American Legion Post 306 Ladies Auxiliary host a Lucky Sevens event the first Saturday of each month with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the early bird games starting at 6 p.m. The post is located at 321 Market St. Players may bring dobbers, or they can be purchased at the post. For information, call 524-2043. All proceeds benefit the auxiliary and their programs for area veterans.
Farmers Market available

Massac County Historical Society
Will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Elijah P. Curtis Home, 405 Market St. Plans for Mrs. Curtis' October dinner party, with ghostly guests from the past, will be discussed. Everyone interested in history is invited to attend.
Metropolis Kiwanis Club
Meets each Tuesday at noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located on the corner of Sixth and Ferry streets in Metropolis. Visitors are welcome.
Metropolis Rotary Club
Meets at noon each Thursday at Central Hall, located at 1009 North Ave. in Metropolis.
Meets every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 100 E. Fifth St. in Metropolis. Attendees are encouraged to enter from the south side of the church.
Metropolis Lions Club
