Dinner to aid Hope Unlimited
Metropolis' Legence Bank is hosting its second annual progressive dinner party on Thursday, Sept. 12 to benefit Hope Unlimited Family Care Center in Metropolis. The event will be held in uptown Metropolis around the Market Street area. The dinner being held from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $20 per person in advance or $25 the day of the event. Azotus homecoming planned
Azotus Church, located south of Bay City in Pope County, will have its church homecoming Sunday. Morning worship will begin at 11 a.m. with Bro. Mark Staton speaking. A potluck dinner will follow at noon. Echoes from Calvary will sing following the meal. Everyone is invited to attend.
Ranch to host special event
Tanglefoot Ranch, located in the Flatwoods community, will be the site of an event on Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. Food, music and karaoke will be featured. Attendees are encouraged to bring musical instruments, with an open-mic featured. The event is free; however, donations will be accepted. For information or for directions, call 618-751-1695.
Church homecoming is Sunday
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, located on Macedonia Church Road in Massac County, will have its 167th homecoming service on Sunday, Aug. 25, beginning at 11 a.m. A potluck luncheon will be served following the service. After the meal, special music will be provided. Everyone is invited to attend.
Due South to perform
Due South will be the featured band at Monday Night Live on Aug. 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 W. 10th St., Monday Night Live features live bands and dancing. A donation is required in order for this program to continue.
Benefit breakfast is Sept. 2
Adventure Crew 101, sponsored by Metropolis Boy Scout Troop 101, will host a benefit pancake breakfast on Monday, Sept. 2 from 7-10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, located on the corner of East Fifth and Ferry streets in Metropolis. The menu will include pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage and fried eggs. All donations will be accepted, and everyone is invited.
Wetlands center events
Cache River Wetlands Center, located on Ill. 37 south of Cypress, will host two events this weekend. Everyone is invited to the program, Reptiles in the Neighborhood, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Attendees will become knowledgeable concerning the common reptiles of southern Illinois, with the program being presented by Tony Gerard. The program will start inside with live reptiles, followed by an excursion along Heron Pond Trail. The PBS movie, Rivers of Life, will be shown from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the center. Visitors will learn more iconic rivers across the globe and feature the wildlife and people who inhabit the river scape of the Amazon River. For information on both programs, call 618-657-2064.
Free meal served next week
At the River Ministries will offer a free hot meal on Monday, Aug. 26 for anyone who has need.
This month's meal will be served at 5 p.m. at New Beginnings Baptist Church, located at 720 E. 12th St. The meal will be followed by a time of worship and distribution of gifts. Anyone who needs a ride, please be at the following locations at 4:30 p.m., where they will board a First Baptist Church van: Strickland Apartments, Humma Apartments, Spence Apartments parking lot, Fairmont Apartments' gazebo and Haven House alley.
Clothing giveaway planned
Weaver Creek Baptist Church, located on the corner of North Avenue and Upper Salem Church Road, will host its annual free clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday. Back to school clothing is available. Everyone is invited to stop.
