Barbecue orders available for pick up

The Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church, located at 197 Macedonia Road, in Pope County, recently held a pulled pork fundraiser to help raise money to rebuild the church, following extensive termite damage to the sanctuary. Pre-paid, pre-orders have already been taken and those individuals who have ordered barbecue will be able to pick it up at the church on Saturday, April 11 starting at 9 a.m. For more information about pick up, call 618-638-8152.

Good Friday church service canceled

Due to health concerns, the Massac County Ministerial Association’s community Good Friday service, scheduled for April 10, has been canceled.

Historical society cancels meeting

Massac County Historical Society will not meet in April, and the Elijah P. Curtis Home will not be open. All activities, including the annual meeting of the society and tours of the Curtis Home, are on hold until further notice. For information, call 524-7203.

Legion Post 306 event canceled

Metropolis’ American Legion Post 306 Ladies Auxiliary’s Lucky Sevens event for Saturday, April 4 has been canceled. For additional information, call 618-524-2043.

Spring hiking season canceled

The River-to-River Trail Society regrets to announce that its remaining scheduled hikes for the 2020 spring hiking season will be cancelled. This includes the public hikes previously scheduled for April 4, April 11, April 18, April 25, April 26 and May 2. The society hopes to offer another series of free public hikes in the fall.

Theater scholarship postponed

The Illinois Association of Home and Community Education has postponed its Hillbilly Theater Scholarship Dinner from April 18 to a later date to be announced. Anyone having questions, call Board President June Badgley at 618-634-2367.

Hours reduced for humane society

Due to the spread of COVID-19, Project Hope Humane Society will not be open to the public during its regular business hours. Visitors are still welcome by appointment only, but will be limited to persons who wish to adopt an animal, make a donation or who have other pertinent business. The weekly fundraising yard sales normally held on Saturdays are canceled as well and no donations for the sales are being taken.
