U.S. Rep. Miller announces office hours

Congresswoman Mary Miller will hold office hours at the Harrisburg satellite office, 100 E. Locust St. from 9 a.m. until noon on Mondays, July 12, July 19 and July 26, and on Fridays, July 9, July 16, July 23 and July 30, or by appointment by calling 217-500-1296. Miller will also host a coffee for residents of Illinois’ 15th Congressional District from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, July 12, at the office.

Human Rights Authority TO meet ON July 15

The Egyptian Regional Human Rights Authority of the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in the meeting room of Pagliai’s Pizza, 509 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale. They will review and discuss guardian complaints concerning allegations that the rights of persons with disabilities are being violated at private and public facilities that provide mental health or developmental disabilities services. Cases tentatively set for this month’s agenda include complaints involving alleged violations of the laws, regulations and other mandates that protect the rights of persons with disabilities. If you believe the rights of a person with disabilities are being violated, you may report this at the meeting or contact the authority’s regional coordinator Kim Conway at 618-833-4897. All complainants’ names are kept confidential.

‘Blooms by the Bushel’ making debut

A book signing and presentation of the Union County Historical and Genealogy Society’s latest research project, “Blooms by the Bushel,” is Sunday, July 11, at the Union County Museum in Cobden. The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. with a presentation and discussion about the growing of daffodils and other flowers at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited. Admission is free. A reception will follow. Copies of the book will be for sale at the museum after the event with all proceeds benefiting the Union County Museum. A mini “Can” Dillow exhibit is also opening on Sunday. Praise in the Park is Saturday

Praise in the Park will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Memorial Park in Karnak. Bring a lawn chair and be ready to sing. Concessions will be available.

Farmers Market is open

The Metropolis Farmers Market is now up and running for the summer. It will be held every Saturday morning, weather permitting, on the from 7 a.m. until noon on Courthouse Square.
