Basketball camps scheduledMassac County High School will be the site of two basketball camps this month. FCA Basketball Camp will run July 20-22; entry forms are available online at www.metrofbc.com. Patriot Camp, open to boys from second- through ninth-grades, will be held July 26-30; entry forms can be picked up at MCHS.

Boy Scout Troop 101 paper drive is SaturdayThe Metropolis Boy Scout Troop 101 paper drive is Saturday, July 17. Newspapers should be bundled together and set out for pickup from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The paper drive community project is held the third Saturday of odd numbered months. Future collection dates for 2021 are: Sept. 18 and Nov. 20. For more information, contact troop leader Lewis Williams at 534-0216 or Metropolis First United Methodist Church at 524-9325.

Farmers Market is openThe Metropolis Farmers Market is now up and running for the summer. It will be held every Saturday morning, weather permitting, on the from 7 a.m. until noon on Courthouse Square.

Dixon Springs Baptist hosting VBSVacation Bible School (VBS) at Dixon Springs Baptist Church will be held Monday, July 19, through Friday, July 23, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. All children and youth from pre-K through sixth grade are invited to participate in the “Concrete and Cranes VBS,” filled with music, crafts, a variety of activities, refreshments and more. The children will have a coin war with the proceeds going to the Carmi Baptist Children’s Home. Commencement will be held Friday, with classes beginning at 6 p.m. and commencement at 7:30 p.m. A pool party will be held Saturday evening at Dixon Springs Pool.

At the River returning July 26At the River ministries will offer a free hot meal for anyone who has need on Monday, July 26, at 5 p.m. at Metropolis Community Center, 900 W. 10th St. The meal will be followed by a time of worship and distribution of gifts. For transportation assistance, call 638-7561 call by 3 p.m. on Monday, July 26; boarding the First Baptist Church van will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Strickland Apartments, Humma Apartments, Spence Apartments parking lot, Fairmont Apartments’ gazebo and Haven House alley. For more information on volunteering or sponsoring a meal, email atr62960@gmail.com. Meals are held the fourth Monday of each month.

Karnak hosting movies in the parkOutdoor movie night will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Memorial Park in Karnak. Shown will be “I Can Only Imagine.” Concessions will be available.
