Food pantry open next week

Emmanuel Temple Ministries COGIC, located at 509 Broadway in Metropolis, will distribute food from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The food pantry is here to serve the community, and all are welcome. For more information, contact Daphane Jackson 618-638-7099.

Local benefit dinner

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, the Vienna Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Egyptian Chapter 30 Order of the Eastern Star and Vienna Masonic Lodge 150 will host a donation only spaghetti dinner Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4:30-7 p.m. The event will be held at the Vienna Masonic Temple, located at 1615 Old Route 146 Loop near Vienna. The all-you-care-to-eat meal will feature spaghetti with homemade sauce, garlic bread, dessert and drink. All donations will be accepted. Carry out orders will also be available. All proceeds will go toward the Johnson County Family Counseling Angel Tree Project.

Blood drive scheduled

First Baptist Church, located at 307 Massac Creek Rd. in Metropolis, will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday. To make an appointment call 800-733-2767.

Clothing giveaway planned

Weaver Creek Baptist Church, located on the corner of North Avenue and Upper Salem Church Road, will host a clothing giveaway on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Everyone is invited to attend.

Clothing giveaway Friday

Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2324 North Ave. in Metropolis, will host a free clothing giveaway from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the church, which is handicapped accessible. A gift card drawing will be held. Everyone is invited to stop by.

Metropolis Garden Club

Will hold its annual Christmas potluck luncheon on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Metropolis Community Center, 900 West 10th St. in Metropolis. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass and a $10-$15 (optional) gift to exchange. All members, past and present, are encouraged to attend.

Church benefit bake sale

First Christian Church will sell a selection of freshly baked cookies on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $6 per pound. Proceeds are used to benefit local families in need throughout the year. Church is located on the corner of 5th & Catherine streets across from Dairy Queen. Cookie sale is held upstairs in the Parlor.
