Historical society meets Monday

Massac County Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Elijah P. Curtis Home, 405 Market St. Plans will be finalized for the July 4 ice cream social. This will take the place of the regular July meeting.

Ham radio operators meeting for breakfast

Massac County Amateur Emergency Service, a part of the Massac County Amateur Radio Club, holds its weekly breakfast meetings at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Yesterday’s, 310 W. 10th St., Metropolis. The next meeting is Saturday, June 25. Testing is also available on Saturday mornings. All ham radio operators or any members of the public who are interested in learning more about the subject of ham radio is invited. For more information, call 270-816-5551.

SBDC offering OSHA training

Grace Church Food Pantry open Saturday

Grace Church, 102 E. 20th St., Metropolis, has opened a food pantry to the public. The pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. every other Saturday. The next date is June 25. Everyone is welcome.

Refuge Church hosting VBS

Refuge Church, 714 Filmore St., is holding Vacation Bible School Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25. Classes will be available for pre-kindergartners through sixth-graders. The theme is “Under Construction: Building Our Life in Jesus.” Classes will be held Thursday and Friday from 6-8:30 p.m. with a fun day on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Registration is through the website vbsmate.com/refugechurch618metropolis.

Southern Seven’s WOW health screenings set

Southern Seven Health Department, in partnership with Illinois Department of Public Health, will hold a Wellness on Wheels health screening events on: Wednesday, June 29, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Village of Olmsted; Wednesday, June 29, from 11:30-4 p.m. at Caledonia Community Church in Olmsted; Wednesday, July 13, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Metropolis Fire Department; and Wednesday, July 13, from 1:30-4 p.m. in front of Big John Grocery. At the River hosting summer block party June 27

At the River Ministries will host a summer block party community dinner at 5 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Dorothy Miller Park in Metropolis. There will be bounce houses, face painting and more. In case of rain, the event will be at Metropolis Community Center, 900 W. 10th St. Everyone is welcome.

Camp Mac registration deadline is July 5

The Union Baptist Association Camp Mac is scheduled for July 10-16 in Ewing, Illinois. The deadline to register is Tuesday, July 5. The costs is $60 per student. Camp dates are open to those who have completed the following grades: third- and fourth-grades, July 10-12; fifth- and sixth-grades, July 12-14; seventh- and eighth-grades, July 14-16. Registration forms are available at the Union Baptist Association Office, 716 E. 12th St., Metropolis.
