KMSO will host

The Kincaid Mounds Support Organization will host an Artifact Day on Saturday, March 14, at Fort Massac State Park. The program will start at 10 a.m. with artifact collections displayed in the state park visitor’s center. Collections on display will include Archaic, Woodland and Mississippian artifacts from KMSO members and other area collectors. Archaeologists and collectors will be available to aid in the identification of artifacts. No artifacts will be for sale at the program.

At 1:30 pm, a special program will be presented by Dr. Brian M. Butler, Department of Anthropology and Center for Archaeological Investigations, SIUC, Emeritus and member of the Kincaid Mounds Support Organization. The presentation will be on Citadels of Ritual and Power in Prehistoric Southern Illinois. For more information contact the FMSP visitor’s center, 618-524-4712. FMSP hosts Story at the Fort

Fort Massac State Park offers the program Story at the Fort the first and third Sundays of each month from 1-2 p.m. at the visitor’s center to hear a historical tale of bravery, culture and war. Afterwards, enjoy a historically-themed craft that’s both fun and easy. While this event is geared towards children ages 5 — 12, all ages are welcome. No registration is required.

Just Friends to perform

Just Friends will be the featured band at Monday Night Live on March 9, starting at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 W. 10th St., Monday Night Live features live bands and dancing. A donation is required in order for this program to continue.

Church hosting fish fries

St. Paul Catholic Church will hold its Lenten fish fries on Fridays — March 13 and March 27 — from 5-7 p.m. at the parish hall, located at 2020 Ill. 146E in Vienna. The menu will consist of all-you-can-eat fish, French fries, coleslaw, dessert and drink. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children with children under 3 eating for free Grilled cheese sandwich and fries can be substituted for the fish meal for $4. Carry-outs will be available. Food pantry open

Emmanuel Temple Ministries COGIC, located at 509 Broadway in Metropolis, will distribute food from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March. 10. The food pantry is here to serve the community, and all are welcome. For more information, contact Daphane Jackson 618-638-7099.
