Sign-up beginning for Harry Statham BasketballThe Harry Statham Youth Basketball League for kids from pre-K to the fourth grade will hold sign-ups at the Metropolis Soccer Complex on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and at the Harry Statham Gym in Brookport on Sunday, Nov. 7, from 2-4 p.m. The cost is $30 per child; families with more than one child involved pay $20 per additional player/cheerleader. River-to-River hike is Saturday

The River-to-River Trail Society will hold its third hike guided hike of the 2021 fall hiking season on Saturday, Oct. 23. Chris Drone will lead a hike at Ferne Clyffe State Park in Johnson County. Hikers should meet at 10 a.m. at the parking lot near the main waterfall trailhead. The hike is free and open to the public. Hikes are intended for people in good condition who have done some hiking. New Beginnings seeks nominees for Christmas Antique Angel ProjectNew Beginnings at Massac Memorial Hospital is seeking nominees for its Christmas Antique Angel Project. Nominees should be over 65 years old, on a limited income, have no family around for the holidays, have difficulty with mood/anxiety in winter months and holidays and live alone (not nursing home or assisted living) in Massac County. The nominee’s permission/knowledge is required. All names are confidential. Nominees and ideas of what the person needs and sizes, if appropriate, must be submitted by Thursday, Nov. 11. MCDAC meets WednesdayMassac County Drug Awareness Coalition (MCDAC) meets the third Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m. in person in the Metropolis City Hall council chambers and also via Zoom. Child Evangelism Fellowship hosting benefit in NovemberChild Evangelism Fellowship is hosting its fifth annual dinner and auction to benefit CEF Good News Clubs in southern Illinois.
