To many, summer means a time to be together outside with family and friends.

And At The River Ministries is providing several opportunities to do just that.

The organization’s summer celebration continues with a Summer Block Party beginning at 5 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Dorothy Miller Park.

The party will include burgers with all the sides and goodies from the City National Bank Ice Cream Bike. To-go orders will not be provided.

There will also be two bounce houses, face painting, live music and worship. Giveaways will be included through the evening; winners must be present.

Dorothy Miller Park is located on Front Street on Metropolis’ riverfront. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Metropolis Community Center, 900 W. 10th St.

Those needing transportation need to call 618-638-7561 by 4 p.m. Monday, June 27. Boarding the First Baptist Church van will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Guardian House, then Haven House alley and finally at Humma Apartments.

ATR hosts a community meal monthly on the fourth Monday. Reminders can be received by texting ATR to 618-602-2985.

At The River Ministries began its summer celebration last month by returning to Dorothy Miller Park, where its first community meal was held on March 25, 2013.

Around 75 people, several of them families, attended the May kickoff.

“It was a relaxing time with a wonderful breeze from the river to compliment the night,” said ATR board member Jackie Lange. “The kids really enjoyed playing yard games.”

The final summer celebration hosted by ATR will be July 25.
