Time for another fish fry this Saturday. The parks and recreation committee is serving either a fish or a barbecue dinner with sides to raise money for park improvements. It will be held at the old Brookport gym on Crockett Street at 4 p.m. until sold out. There will also be a drawing for half a pig at a dollar a chance or six for $5. Other vendors will be present as well. Come out and have a good time.

Next Tuesday will be the regular city council meeting at 7 p.m. Get the updates on projects and voice your concerns.

The senior citizens will not be meeting Tuesday. With the rise in COVID-19 infections, it was felt best to hold off for now and see what October brings. Continued vaccinations may help slow the spread.

Sept. 11 will be Paul Roark’s birthday. Emma Hanak and Ian Anderson will celebrate on Sept. 12. Emma will be turning 97 and is proud of it. Lane Giltner and Roy Wayne Neely will be a year older Sept. 13 and Amy Coram and Shannon Partain also add a year’s experience to their earth time. Happy birthday to everyone and enjoy your day.

The ball field by the elementary school is getting worked over. Mike Jennings has taken his tractor to till the ground to level it. Others have offered to bring dirt and a road grader. Keith Strickland had been keeping it mowed so kids would have a place to play.

No one is getting paid for this. They just do it out of the goodness of their heart so I have to brag on them. I’ve never heard any of them mention what they do but I sure am proud of these doers. We may have some breakers in society but we have a good many fixers. Keep up the good work.
