On Oct. 5 McCracken County Sheriff's Deputy Kenneth Baldwin conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, due to the vehicle's rear license plate not being illuminated. The vehicle's registration was also expired. A search of the vehicle revealed the operator, Cindy Smith, 60, of Brookport, was in possession of methamphetamine.

Smith was charged with rear license not illuminated, no registration plates, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense; and possession of controlled substance -- methamphetamine --, first degree, first offense. The McCracken County Sheriff's office Storm Team also arrested John Korte, 32, of Metropolis, on Oct. 4, for speeding over 26 miles per hour over the speed limit, failure of owner to maintain insurance, trafficking in controlled substance -- methamphetamine, first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
