Friday's rain left eggs around Massac County, and kids were ready for the hunt on Saturday, April 16.

Zeta Zeta sorority held its annual hunt at Washington Park where children ages 0 to 10 were split into three age groups to scoop up as many eggs filled with candy — along with some redeemable for special prizes. After the hunt, kids, and several parents, posed for pictures with the Easter Bunny. The sorority has hosted the hunt for over 35 years. This was the first hunt since 2019; a drive-thru style event was held last year due to COVID-19.

Many hunters also went across the street to the Metropolis Public Library’s Hip, Hop, Hooray! event with food, games and crafts, along with the opportunity to pre-register for the summer reading program.

Later on Saturday, kids were at the Brookport Library for a hunt co-sponsored by Bethel AME Church. After filling their baskets, everyone was treated to hot dogs, chips and drinks. Prizes were also given out. A few hours later, the City of Brookport had its community Easter egg hunt at the park. The Easter Bunny was there for picture opportunities and gave out chocolate bunnies. Plenty of eggs were scattered to fill baskets. Afterward, sandwiches and refreshments were served.

The community marked Good Friday with the annual service hosted by the Massac County Ministerial Alliance on April 15. Around 50 people attended the event at First Christian Church in Metropolis. Joey Dunning, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Metropolis, brought the message. He discussed how through Jesus' love for Judas, we can understand His love for us. Alliance president Jim Duncan welcomed the attendees. First Christian pastor Keith Tilford lead the opening prayer, and First Missionary Baptist Church pastor Rev. Dr. Orlando McReynolds lead the closing prayer. An offering was collected to benefit the emergency fund that operates out of First Christian Church.
