Many offices and local businesses will be closed Saturday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas.

Among those closing are banks, government offices, including area post offices, and most retail businesses.

Local banks will be closing at noon on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24.

Massac County Unit One School District and the Joppa-Maple Grove School District will be on Christmas break Dec. 20-31. Unit 1 students will dismiss at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, while J-MG students will dismiss at 1 p.m. J-MG will hold a teacher in-service on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, with students returning to school on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. Unit 1 classes resume Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.

Metropolis City Hall will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. All City of Metropolis Public Works departments will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Dec. 27.

Brookport City Hall will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Massac County Courthouse will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, and, Friday, Dec. 24.

Bulldog Trash Services will run its regular Metropolis trash service routes during the week of Christmas.

Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Services facilities will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Online services are available at www.ilsos.gov.

The Metropolis Public Library will close at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, and reopen on Monday, Dec. 27.

The Brookport Library will close for the holidays from Dec. 20-31.

The Metropolis Planet will be closed on Christmas Eve. The deadline for advertising and news items for the Dec. 27 Southern Scene is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22.
