Maple Grove Elementary School is one step closer to having a school resource officer after Massac County commissioners gave authorization by consensus to Massac County State’s Attorney Josh Stratemeyer to draft an intergovernmental agreement between the county and Maple Grove School District.

Stratemeyer, who was at Tuesday morning’s meeting, told the board the school resource officer would be a certified police officer and deputy of Massac County Sheriff’s Office, however the officer, Rick Griffey, would not be eligible for any retirement benefits through the county. He said Griffey, who has retired from the Metropolis Police Department, is looking for a supplemental income.
