The Elijah P. Curtis Home, located at 405 Market St. in Metropolis, has resumed regular open hours with COVID-19 precautions. Hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Those coming to see the home are asked to be in small groups, wear masks and maintain social distance. Tours at other times are available by pre-arrangement, observing the same precautions. To schedule a tour, call 524-7203. There is no charge to see the home, although donations are always welcome.

The Curtis Home is a National Register property. Much of it has been restored to look as it did in the 1870s and 1880s, when Elijah Curtis and his family lived there. The Curtis Room houses many of Major Curtis’ Civil War memorabilia, plus other items from the history of Massac County.

The Massac County Historical Society will resume monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3. Everyone interested in history is invited to attend. Masks are encouraged and social distancing is required.
