With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it's not too early to think about this year's local Christmas parades.

Area residents can kick back and enjoy the Christmas season by watching the Metropolis Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The 68th annual Metropolis Christmas Parade will begin at 3 p.m. This year's theme is "Magical Hometown Christmas"

The parade will begin at Third and Ferry streets and end at Ninth and Market Streets.

The parade will come up Ferry Street, turning left on Fifth Street, around Superman Square and end at Ninth and Market streets.

The Metropolis Chamber committee has established the following guidelines for the parade and judging.

• Every unit must be decorated using this year's theme

• Participants must be in place by 2:15 p.m.

• The Metropolis Rotary Club is the only unit allowed to have a Santa Claus.

• All entries must be child/family friendly. No weapons, real or fake, will be allowed.

The application deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 27.

The alternate date in case of rain is Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3:30 p.m.

The Paducah Parks Services Department is accepting entry applications for the 2019 Christmas Parade.

The Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. in downtown Paducah.

The parade follows Broadway starting at 14th Street and ending at Second and Monroe streets, where it will disband.

The theme for the 2019 Christmas Parade is "Christmas Celebrations Around the World" with music and lighting required for all entries.

Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade on the official Santa float and will be available for photos after the parade at the downtown gazebo.
