Members of the Shawnee Community College (SCC) faculty along with several student volunteers were on hand Sept. 19 to present safety tips to local elementary students at the 20th annual Southern Illinois Health and Safety Day Camp in Vienna. The annual camp is a joint effort between Farm Bureau, U of I Extension, Ag in the Classroom, the Soil and Water Conservation District and FFA and reaches hundreds of local students, providing farm safety tips. SCC Faculty member Tony Gerard, pictured on right, and Lori Armstrong presented a program called Bites and Stings. The program highlighted many of the local insects, venomous and non-venomous snakes found in the region.
