Fall Back to Metropolis

Metropolis' Super Museum will host the second annual Fall Back to Metropolis event, featuring two days of events on Nov. 1-2. Organizers hope people will come to Metropolis to enjoy a fall weekend packed with lots of fun for the entire family.

The fun begins on Friday evening, when illusionist/mentalist Morgan Strebler will perform upstairs at the Super Museum at 6 p.m., thrilling the crowd with his abilities to bend steel with his mind. Admission to the Super Museum will give individuals access to the evening's event.

Later Friday night at 8 p.m., Southern Illinois' Zaago's Horror Extravaganza will be the host for the evening as they navigate visitors through the horror classic House on Haunted Hill, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. The scary movie night will be held upstairs at the Super Museum.

For those who are still in the Halloween frame of mine and interested in the paranormal, the Riverview Mansion Bed and Breakfast will host Ghostology 101 from 6-9 p.m. Paranormal investigators Gavin and Paula Kelly will give people insights on how paranormal investigations take place, the equipment used and then take participants on a ghost hunt at the bed and breakfast. Space is limited to 16 people and the cost is $15 per person. The Ghostology 101 event will also be held on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Proceeds will assist Joppa High School student groups.

On Saturday the Super Museum opens at 8 a.m. There will be a Superman bounce house at the Super Museum, a superhero paint party hosted by Smudge from noon to 4 p.m. as well as a superhero meet and greet. Kids and those young at heart can visit with characters such as: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Magneto, The Joker, Scooby Doo, Spider Man, Harley Quinn, Kylo Ren, Jack Skeleton and the Winter Soldier.

All day vendors and shops will be open on Market Street and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. visitors to Fall Back Metropolis will have the chance to visit artists Philo Barnhart, Charles D. Moisant, Liam hay, Candice Comelleri, Trevor Hawkins and many others.

From 1-2 p.m. on Saturday individuals will have the chance to pick the brain of Super Museum founder, Jim Hambrick, in a question and answer session, which will be held upstairs in the Super Museum.

The events on Saturday culminate in the upstairs at Fat Edd's Roadhouse at 6 p.m., when everyone is invited to attend an 80's dance party. People are encouraged to show up in costumes. D.J. Josh Fowlerplay the tunes and a bar will be available. Admission to the dance party is $5.

Wrist bands will be available at the Super Museum for $10 that will allow access to the Scary Movie Night on Friday night, the Super Museum and the Totally 80s Dance Party at Fat Edd's Saturday night.

Sunday morning from 9 a.m. to noon individuals are invited to have brunch at the historic Riverview Mansion Bed and Breakfast. Anyone wishing to have brunch must RSVP to Riverview Mansion Bed and Breakfast at 270-816-1701 or email 4riverviewmansion@gmail.com. The cost is $10 per person.
