The annual Metropolis Kiwanis and Rotary Scholarship Spaghetti Supper is just over a month away, and the silent auction block is taking shape. Donated items from local crafts persons and businesses include: a 15.5-by-12-inch golf course oil painting and a 14.75-by-11.75-inch framed and matted swordfish print, both by Jerry Oliver, formerly of Metropolis and currently of Tequesta, Florida, who is a resident artist at The Artists Studio and Gallery of Tequesta; a handmade afghan by Diane Karber; an entry to the 2023 Kiwanis Superman Bike Ride, a $65 value; and a 56-by-48-inch President Abraham Lincoln-themed quilt with other various patterns made by Glenda Moody Moore. Those interested in donating items for the auction can contact Landon Bremer at 618-524-2161 or Rita Park at 618-309-1930. The Scholarship Spaghetti Supper will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Massac Junior High School. The event raises money for scholarships, which will be presented April 27 during the 38th annual Academic Awards Ceremony, to seniors graduating from Joppa and Massac County high schools.
