The ninth annual For Kids' Sake Superhero 5K Run/Walk-a-Thon will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Turley Park in Carbondale. After the race, there will be an awards ceremony, food, kids' activities and music.

This is a fundraising event for orphans and school children in Bangladesh. Funds are raised by participants getting pledges and donations and from the donations of 50 local businesses.

Everyone who raises $300 in pledges will receive a free fleece blanket.

Awards will also be given for the teams that raise the most money, fastest times and who are the best superhero dressed. New this year will be the best super dog costume.

Teams will consist of four people.

Registration and pledge forms are available at business sponsor locations or online at www.forkidssake.net.

Individuals who pre-register by Friday, Sept. 20, the cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children 17 and under. They are guaranteed to receive an event T-shirt.

Adults who register on Sept. 28, the cost is $25. The cost for children will still be $10. Participants will receive a T-shirt if still available.
