Continuing a tradition that began 12 years ago, members of Girl Scout Troop 8029 spent their Saturday, Nov. 19, at Big John Collecting for COPE. The troop, which was assisted during the day by members of Ambassador Troop 8029, Cadette Troop 8694 and Daisy Troop 08912, with help from the community, raised 750 pounds of food for COPE Food Pantry. Troop 8029 members were in kindergarten when their third Saturday in November tradition began. Now high school juniors, the members have continued it in memory of their troop leader, the late Kathy Martin, who passed away in October 2020. Girl Scouts and leaders participating Saturday were Abigail Martin, Maci Parmer, Hannah Heine, Elise Coakley, Ellie Rottmann, Lori Rottmann, Reagan Crim, Peyton Sullivan, Henley Werner, Amelia Werner, Brooklyn Fritz, Emery Fritz, Elanor Fritz, Brooke Crim, Aaron Fritz, Brylee Hornback, Libby Conkle, Lindsey Conkle, Christy Crim, Adyson Crim, Angel Jaco and Hayden Bremer. COPE accepts food and monetary donations year round. Monetary donations made out to COPE can be mailed to COPE, P.O. Box 761, Metropolis, IL 62960.
