Massac County Historical Society will welcome the holiday season by hosting an open house at the Elijah P. Curtis Home from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.
This National Register home is 152 years old. Built for Elijah Curtis and his bride when Maj. Curtis returned from the Civil War, the two-story brick house was a home for several families over the years before being purchased by the Massac County Historical Society. It has been partially restored to how it might have looked when the Curtis family lived there, with displays of some of the things Maj. Curtis used during the war and in his years in Metropolis. It also houses the society’s collection of items from throughout the history of Massac County.
