Hello. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm kind of tired of all this rain. I attended the 41st annual Superman Celebration on Saturday with hat in hand and umbrella and, at times, I needed both. At least it wasn't scorching hot.
There seemed to be a pretty good turnout. If you went away hungry that would be your fault. There sure was a lot of food to pick from.
Here are some birthdays coming up: Beverly Evers and Sidney Gotway, both on June 14; Gena Corzine Childress, Trevor Wilson and Bill Dover, all on June 15; Darrell Treat, June 16; Cooper Gotway, June 17; Ginger Brewer and Shelby Penrod, both on June 19; and Jordan Clark Holcomb, June 20.
Well thanks to Mother Nature, the third annual Karnak Car Show was postponed until Saturday, July 13. That's OK. It will give more people more time to hear about it and do more work on their machines. Fingers crossed, it will be a dry day this time.
Flag Day will be celebrated Friday, June 14, which was believed to have been first originated in 1885 by B.J. Cigrand, a schoolteacher in Fredonia, Wisconsin. If you have a U.S. flag, show your patriotism by displaying your stars and strips this Thursday.
And also on this date June 14, 1775, the U.S. Army was established. The Second Continental Congress founded the Army in 1775. It is the oldest service of the United States military. Originally formed to protect the freedom of the first 13 colonies, the Army has evolved and grown from this small militia force into the world's premier fighting force.
I know a lot of people have animals now days inside and out, with all different breeds. They like to play, go for car rides and long walks. Just think if we didn't have animals we wouldn't do much in the since of exercise.
I heard people say, "When mine's gone, there won't be another." That's where you're wrong. Having a companion helps with the pain of loosing one. You never really forget the pets in the past. I can remember every one I've ever had, and I can honestly say they had a great life. As for me, the pain is hard to bare but knowing you gave them love and a good home helps.
The Lord put these animals on earth for a purpose. Please go to a shelter near you and make a difference in an animal's life.
I want to wish all you dads a happy Father's Day next Sunday. This Father's Day will mark 100 years since its founding in 1909 by a little girl, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, who wanted to designate a day for her father after listening to a Mother's Day sermon at church in 1909.
In case you're interested, the first Mother's Day was in 1908.
It takes 90 gallons of water to baptize a Christian and only nine drops of rain to stop them from coming to church.
I hope you have a good week.
