Firefighters salute as the hearse carrying the late Chad Parker, a Metropolis Firefighter, makes its way past the Metropolis Fire Department one last time last Friday morning following his funeral. The funeral was held at Metropolis First Baptist Church. A long line of fire trucks and city emergency vehicles led the way as Parker's procession went past the fire station and then past Metropolis City Hall on its way to St. John's Cemetery, where Parker was laid to rest. Parker had been a full time city fireman for 20 years and had been a paid on-call fireman for 10 years prior to that. Citizens were encouraged to line the streets as the procession went by. At the graveside, a last call over the radio was given for Parker by former city dispatcher Aaron Caldwell. A fundraiser was initiated by fellow firefighter Micah Tolbert and Wendi Koehler Culkin on Facebook titled, "Fundraiser for the family of Captain Chad Parker of the Metropolis FD." A video of the procession and the last call can be found on the Planet's YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/themetropolisplanet.
