According to Chris McGinness, site superintendent for Mermet Lake Fish and Wildlife Refuge and Fort Massac State Park, Mermet Lake will close to the public Friday at 8 a.m. for the establishment of waterfowl refuge.

At that time, McGinness stresses only registered hunters will be allowed in the area.

No date was provided for when the lake will be open again to the public.
