Metropolis library marks Veterans Day

The Metropolis Public Library thanked the county’s veterans for their service with a breakfast prior to the American Legion Post 306 Veterans Day Program on Friday, Nov. 11. More than 70 veterans and their loved ones were in attendance. The breakfast — including scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, Red’s donut holes, coffee, tea and hot cocoa — was prepared by Harvey Baxter and Carl Johnson and served by Geoff Crippen, Janis Bradford, Brenda Hill and Rosemary Baxter. Each veteran was presented a thank-you bag, which contained jerky, nuts, mints, chocolate, chips, protein bars, fruit snacks, pens, key lanyards and fridge clips. “We are honored to serve those who serve and have served our beautiful country, in this very small way. I pray each of them and their family members realize we don’t take their sacrifices for granted,” said library director Rosemary Baxter.
