On Jan. 31,  agents from the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force (SIDTF), Metropolis Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Postal Service executed a search warrant in Metropolis as part of an investigation concerning large amounts of cannabis being sent through the U.S. Mail. During the search, agents seized over 3,000 grams of cannabis.

Howard M. Palmer, 42, of Metropolis, was arrested and transported to the Massac County jail.

The public is reminded that, under law, a defendant is presumed innocent of a charge until proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, to the satisfaction of a jury.

The Ullin Office of the ISP/SIDTF is comprised of membership from the Massac County Sheriff’s Department,  Massac County State's Attorney’s office, Metropolis Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, Hardin County States Attorneys’ office and the Illinois State Police Zone 7.

The case is being prosecuted by Massac County State’s Attorney Josh Stratemeyer.
